Paediatrics on Tynte is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of our patients and their families. We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and the Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store and protect personal and health information.
We may collect personal information, sensitive information and health information including patient demographics, contact details, Medicare and billing information, medical history, referral letters, investigation results, clinical notes, developmental information, school and allied health reports, telehealth information and electronic communications.
Information is generally collected directly from patients, parents, guardians, referring practitioners, hospitals, allied health providers, schools, government agencies and electronic communications including website forms, email and telehealth consultations.
We collect information to provide healthcare services, communicate with families, coordinate care, arrange investigations and referrals, maintain medical records, process billing, comply with legal obligations and support practice administration and quality improvement.
Information may be disclosed to healthcare providers, hospitals, allied health professionals, schools (with consent), Medicare, health insurers, government agencies, legal advisors and secure technology providers where necessary for patient care or as required by law. We do not sell patient information.
We may communicate via telephone, SMS and email regarding appointments, recalls, billing, referrals, telehealth links and administrative matters. While reasonable precautions are taken, electronic communications may not always be secure.
Telehealth consultations may occur using secure electronic platforms. We acknowledge there may be technical limitations or interruptions. Telehealth consultations form part of the medical record.
The practice may use secure clinical software systems, cloud storage, transcription services or
AI-assisted documentation tools to support healthcare delivery and administration. Reasonable steps are taken to ensure compliance with Australian privacy obligations.
Our website may use cookies and analytics tools to improve functionality and user experience. Limited non-identifiable website usage information may be collected.
We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Information may be stored securely in electronic medical records, encrypted backups and secure cloud-based systems.
Patients and parents/guardians may request access to or correction of medical records in accordance with applicable legislation. Requests should generally be made in writing and reasonable administrative fees may apply.
As a paediatric practice, we recognise the importance of balancing a child’s privacy with parental involvement in care. In circumstances involving separated parents, the practice may request copies of relevant court orders or parenting documentation.
Medical records are retained in accordance with legal and professional obligations. Children's records are generally retained until at least 25 years of age.
The practice maintains a Data Breach Response Plan to support prompt identification, containment and management of suspected or confirmed data breaches. Where required by law, affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) will be notified.
Privacy concerns or complaints may be directed to the Practice Principal using the contact details below. If concerns are not resolved, complaints may be made to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
